We have an excellent opportunity for a Sport Development Manager to join our Sport and Active Health team at Canterbury Christ Church University. The successful candidate will lead our Sport Development Team and be part of the Sport & Active Health Management group. We are passionate about sport and physical activity at the University and deliver a range of innovative programmes and sporting opportunities.

Our facilities include a large double sports hall, spin studio and state-of-the-art gym. We additionally operate a joint specialist facility which offers three floodlit hockey pitches, an indoor tennis centre, outdoor tennis courts and a spacious sports hall. The University has five grass sports pitches for football and rugby, and through partnership with local clubs we offer golf, kayaking, equestrian, trampoline and athletics facilities.
The Role
We believe sport is an integral part of the student experience and has a big role to play in improving the physical and mental health of our University community. Reporting to the Director of Sport & Active Health, you will be responsible for the management of the Sport Development Team which has responsibility for the student sports club programme; the sport scholarship programme; coach education programme; community sport programme and our social and recreational sport offer. You will ensure that the team deliver a first-class experience whilst operating within budgetary allowances. You and your team will be involved in delivery of a wide range of recreational sport and physical activity opportunities that get the whole University community active as part of our Be Moved strategy.
You will be part of the Sport & Active Health Management group and help to shape our strategic direction as a department as we continue to improve and develop. You will provide leadership and support your team in being the best they can be, helping them to design and deliver high quality experiences. You will manage the Sport Development budget which also includes the student sport club operating budget and help to develop bids for external funding to help us expand our provision. You will work in conjunction with the Active Health Manager and Marketing & Communications Manager to ensure that our provision is planned, coordinated and promoted effectively.
The Person
We are looking for a lively, outgoing person who is a natural at engaging people. You will be confident in delivering sport and activities that can easily connect with students. You will have experience managing people, projects and budgets organising logistics and handling multiple streams of work. You must be flexible and adaptable and able to work occasional early morning, evening and weekend shifts as our programmes require. You will be prepared to work hard and be one of our fantastic team. You may be educated to degree level but will have relevant professional experiences in the areas of sport development.
