Job description
Sport & Exercise Science PhD Scholarship: Isometric exercise training and resting blood pressure
The School of Human & Life Sciences are inviting applications for one funded full-time scholarship in the area of isometric exercise training and resting blood pressure management. Applicants should have the minimum of a good honours degree (2:1
or above) in a relevant discipline and are required to complete the university PhD application form, references
and provide a CV.
The School of Human and Life Sciences seeks to harness and integrate insights from fundamental, applied and social sciences to improve the conditions of human living. It has approximately 75 academic staff and 15 professional service and technical support staff providing innovative multi-disciplinary science and social science education across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to over 1400 students. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, the majority of the School's submitted research was assessed to be world leading and internationally excellent.
The PhD proposal should focus upon developing current knowledge and understanding of the effects of isometric exercise training upon resting blood pressure. Candidates are encouraged to provide a clear research question and aim(s) in their application and consider the research design in terms of its feasibility and suitability in relation to the application/proposal submitted.
The scholarship includes payment of fees and a GBP 13,000 yearly stipend, as well as GBP 500 annually for conferences and events. The supervision team will be academics from the school with a background in this area of research. The successful candidate will have access to the university Graduate School facilities.
Candidates selected for interview will be expected to deliver a 15 minute presentation on their PhD proposal outlining the research questions and proposed research design.
