The Police Education Qualification Framework (PEQF) has been introduced by the College of Policing as the professional education framework for police officers and staff. Recently, the School were successful in securing a contract, as part of a consortium, to deliver police apprenticeships to three police services. The School will be delivering apprenticeship policing degree, degree holder pathways and in-service policing degrees at undergraduate level as well as postgraduate policing programmes.  The School also contains the Canterbury Centre for Policing Research (CCPR) that hosts an annual conference, round table events and a lecture series. The CCPR promotes the work of research students and staff across the School and seeks to engage with policing professions in the UK and beyond. The successful candidate will join a thriving research environment and will be part of the CCPR benefiting from the networks and contacts established by staff within the School.  The PhD proposal should focus on police education and/police professionalisation on the proposal form. Candidates are encouraged to be provide clear research questions in their applications and consider the research design in terms of its feasibility and suitability in relation to the application/proposal submitted.  Candidates are expected to be based at the Canterbury Campus on a full-time basis and demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of policing in the United Kingdom. The scholarship includes payment of fees and a GBP 13,000 yearly stipend, as well as GBP 500 annually for conferences and events. The supervision team will be academics from the school with a background in policing research. The successful candidate will have access to the university Graduate School facilities. The start date is flexible to the availability of the successful candidate, but we would anticipate registration being no later than January.
