Part-Time (0.5 FTE University Instructor role plus 0.5 FTE PhD student)
Psychology is located within the School of Psychology and Life Sciences in the Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Social Sciences. The Role
Applications are invited for a University Instructor in Psychology position. The Instructor post combines the provision of part-time teaching assistant duties (0.5FTE) with the requirement to study half time for a PhD in one of our priority research areas.The teaching and teaching support role will include a range of duties including leading undergraduate seminars, workshop and/or practical work and assisting in the delivery of lecture programmes and marking of student work. The role will also involve contribution to outreach and recruitment activities.
Applicants for the instructor post will have a good (2:1 or above) first degree in Psychology. A Master’s degree in a relevant subject area will be an advantage. Applicants will show in the covering letter how their research interests align with those of one or more of our four research themes and provide a brief proposal for a PhD which aligns with these themes and our priority research areas. Our research themes and priority research areas are:
Health and Well-being: researching adult, child and adolescent mental health, psychological and health interventions and approaches.
Cognition and Neuropsychology: understanding cognitive processes and impairments, neuropsychology, social cognitions, and biological / physiological phenomena related to psychology (e.g. olfaction, balance).
Society and Environment: exploring group behaviour, prosocial behaviour, emotions, criminal offending and victim support.
Learning and Development: examining social and cognitive development in children and adolescents.
