Background This is an exciting opportunity to provide the technical leadership required to manage the brand new Anatomy Learning Centre. This facility is located within the new £65m STEM building on the Canterbury campus of Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), and is an integral part of the establishment of Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS), which is a joint and equal partnership between CCCU and the University of Kent, and will be a regional resource, to enhance anatomical learning across the healthcare professions, including the expansion of postgraduate medical education.
The facilities will deliver excellence in anatomy teaching within a full cadaver laboratory and embalming facility underpinned by a Human Tissue Authority License and robust policy and governance structures to support this.
The Role
The post holder will work collaboratively with the Head of Anatomy for Kent and Medway Medical School and other Academic Leads for Anatomy within CCCU so the Anatomy Learning Centre delivers a high quality service to promote an excellent staff and student learning experience.
The Technical Director will lead the development and delivery of the Anatomy Learning Centre Service, through the commissioning, establishment and on- going development of the facility, with the support of the Technician Team, and all available enabling mechanisms in the university community.
This role reports to the Faculty Director of Learning and Teaching within CCCU, and will act as the Designated Individual, to provide assurance that the operation of the Anatomy Learning Centre and the Stem Cell Research and Advanced Bio-engineering Laboratory (SCRABEL) at CCCU’s Medway campus, are compliant with HSE legislation and Human Tissue Authority license requirements.
The Person
You will be at least MSc level qualified likely to be from an anatomy or biomedical science background (or equivalent standard) with experience in the management of services such as a laboratory or service that requires governance of human tissue including traceability, health and safety, consent and resource management. You must be able to demonstrate leadership, decision making, organisation and communication as essential requirements.
Desirable requirements: experience of producing anatomical prosection, leadership qualification, health and safety certification would also be advantageous.
